Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim to be Man Utd boss

Manchester United is set to announce Ruben Amorim as the club’s new manager following the sacking of Erik Ten Hag. Amorim has been hired from Portuguese side Sporting CP but he won’t make the move to Old Trafford right away.

The delay in confirming the Sporting CP boss has led to uncertainty over whether or not he is to be given the post. United will reportedly pay his €10m (£8.3m) release clause to Sporting CP but the club, according to The Independent, is reportedly n negotiants with the Portuguese champions to ensure that he will not have to serve a 30-day notice period as they agree terms to bring over his backroom staff to Old Trafford.

Sir David Brailsford, director of sport at INEOS, the company which owns Manchester United, appeared to confirm to fans that deal had been done. Meanwhile, interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy said that he is willing to help the club for “as long as needed.” The former striker oversaw a 5-2 win over Leicester City earlier this week.

Amorim said that the “soap opera” about his future is coming to end. He suggested that his move to Manchester United will be announced later today.

Sporting CP hopes to keep him on until the November international break. This would allow him to manage the club during its clash with Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday the 5th of November.

Former manager Jose Mourinho has hailed Amorim as “the best coach in Portugal,” describing him as a “good kid” who is “always intense.”

When Amorim takes over, he will have a number of Premier League fixtures waiting for him, starting with a game against Tottenham.
