Safety works to begin at Battersea Bridge
Safety works are set to begin from Wednesday 11th June on Battersea Bridge as part of its safety improvements scheme on the north side of the river in Kensington and Chelsea. This work is expected to continue until around October 2025.
Works to the south of the bridge in Wandsworth started in November 2024 and are nearing completion. TfL consulted on the works from November 2022 until January 2023.
“After some initial improvements to safety in 2021, it’s good to see Transport for London now going further to make Battersea Bridge safer for everyone. New crossings at the junction are very welcome,” Cllr Johnny Thalassites, lead member for planning and environment, said. “I can’t overstate the importance of our local community in bringing about these changes. Residents have campaigned tirelessly for many years after tragic loss of life at the junction and we have been right behind them, so it’s a relief to see more safety improvements at long last. I know there is some concern about traffic impacts, particularly of the banned left turn into Beaufort Street. Once the scheme is complete we will be keeping a very close eye on the impacts and feeding back to TfL.”
The safety works will take place on weekdays from 8am until 4pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1:30pm. No work will be taking place on Sundays.
