REWORK online store selling pre-owned home appliances
Anyone in Wandsworth looking to shop more sustainably can benefit from a new online store, REWORK. The “reuse partnership” between Wandsworth Council, Groundwork London, and Western Riverside Waste Authority refurbishes unwanted or broken appliances, giving them a new lease on life, and makes them available to buy through its new online store.
The initiative aims to reduce waste, lower emissions, and offer local residents high-quality home appliances at a lower cost. It’s part of Wandsworth’s goal to become a more sustainable and low-waste borough.
The launch of the REWORK online shop builds on its existing offer at Smugglers Way Houshold Waste and Recycling Centre, where donated items are repaired daily and tested by a team of technicians and apprentices. Over the last five years, residents have taken more than 8,600 electrical items and over 2,300 pieces of furniture there, which would be refurbished and rehomed. That is equivalent to nearly 160 tonnes or the weight of 13 double-decker buses.
The REWORK online shop is now live and will be updated regularly with new stock. Residents can also continue to donate unwanted electrical items in good condition at Smugglers Way. Find out more and start shopping
For anyone hoping to dispose of any bulky waste to make room for a refurbished appliance, book a free bulky waste collection and it will be collected for free. The service has already proved a runaway success, with 10,000 bookings and over 23,000 items collected so far.
