Planning Applications Committee approves “much needed” council homes

Wandsworth Council’s Planning Applications Committee has approved three council-led developments as part of the Homes for Wandsworth programme. The three schemes will provide a total of 54 “much-needed council homes, ranging in size and including wheelchair-accessible homes.

Our Homes for Wandsworth programme is an ambitious plan to deliver new council homes across the borough.

“A safe and secure home is the foundation for a good life,” Councillor Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, said. “The Homes for Wandsworth programme is vital to our aim to deliver a fairer and more compassionate borough for everyone. By using council-owned land, we are able to deliver new council homes which will take families off of housing waiting lists, helping us to tackle the housing crisis at the sharpest end.”

Eastwood South in Roehampton and Ackroydon (site B) in West Hill were both full planning applications for new developments that use small plots of land to great effect, while The Alders application provided amendments to an already approved scheme.

The Homes for Wandsworth programme is delivering more than just housing. The council works closely with residents to ensure that new developments bring community benefits with them, including new landscaping and improvements to the existing areas. Some schemes are able to provide new community facilities.

With these recent approvals, Wandsworth council boasts that over 600 homes have now either completed, are currently being built or have planning permission. The programme is on track to achieve 1,000 completed homes by 2029.
