Nominations open for K&C Mayor’s Awards

The Mayor’s Awards are back, marking their 25th anniversary, and nominations are now open to recognize the incredible contributions of individuals, groups, and organizations in Kensington and Chelsea. This is a prime opportunity to spotlight those who have positively impacted the community, whether through initiatives promoting mental and physical wellbeing, efforts to enhance community safety, or cultural and heritage advocacy.

Nominations can be submitted through the Council’s website in three categories: Individual Contribution, Young Achiever, and Voluntary and Community Sector Organisation. The deadline for submissions is 5 PM on Monday, 20th January, 2025.

Mayor Cllr Will Lane expressed his enthusiasm for the awards, stating, “During my time as Mayor, I’ve met many dedicated individuals who selflessly improve the lives of others. I encourage everyone to nominate those who deserve recognition for their hard work.” This year is particularly special, as the awards aim to celebrate a record number of outstanding contributions in the borough.

Previous award recipients have shared their experiences. Rhea Mehta, founder of Reading with Rhea and a Young Achiever award winner, noted, “It’s an honor to know my work has positively impacted my community.” Similarly, Spencer Murray, lead at Portobello Dance and Performing Arts School, emphasized the importance of recognition, saying, “It means a lot to know that hard work is appreciated.” Sophie Lewisohn, former Chair and Trustee at the ClementJames Centre, highlighted the diverse contributions to the community, urging nominations for individuals actively making a difference.

A panel of six judges will select the winners, including Cllr Will Lane, Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, Cllr Kasim Ali, Michael Ashe, Angela Spence, and the newly elected Youth Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea in January 2025.

The awards ceremony will take place in Spring 2025, celebrating the achievements of this year’s winners and their invaluable contributions to Kensington and Chelsea. For the Mayor’s Awards nomination form and guidance, visit: www.rbkc.gov.uk/mayors-awards
