Magic Breakfast helping thousands of children

Thousands of children are benefitting from a free, nutritious breakfast at school daily thanks to a partnership between Wandsworth Council and Magic Breakfast. The programme, now in its third year, supports 40 local schools, providing over 5,000 children with a healthy meal every morning. This year saw 1,850 more breakfasts being served compared to last year with 57% of pupils in supported schools having a healthy breakfast every morning.

Magic Breakfast provides a “flexible mix of classroom breakfast, breakfast clubs, and grab and go options,” ensuring that all pupils, even those who arrive late, “have access to food to start” the school day. This, Wandsworth says, “has not only improved nutrition, but it has also transformed children’s concentration, behaviour and attendance at school.”

In addition to the daily provision at school, over 2,500 breakfast holiday packs have been distributed over Easter and the May half-term break. More are planned over the summer to help families over the school break.
