Illegally parked luxury cars cracked down on by Westminster
Westminster has launched a crackdown on illegally parked luxury cars in the borough after being “inundated with complaints from residents about guests at the Chancery Rosewood hotel, on the site of the former US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, parking their vehicles illegally on the footway outside the hotel.”
London “has become a mecca for wealthy foreigners” says Car Scoops, adding that “some don’t follow the rules. “This has infuriated locals,” it added, “and sparked a number of high-profile crackdowns on drivers behaving badly.”
Last summer, over 60 cars were seized as part of a joint effort by Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police, and the Motor Insurance Bureau. The vehicles, the website reported, were valued at £6 million and included Ferrari, Bentley, and Lamborghini models.
“Those on foot shouldn’t have to run a gauntlet of illegally and selfishly parked supercars when trying to walk around Westminster,” Councillor Max Sullivan, Cabinet Member for Streets said. “That’s why we’ve used our relocation vehicle to physically move these cars out of the way. We will not tolerate dangerous pavement parking, whether it’s a Lime bike or a Lamborghini.”
The council has launched a crackdown on illegally parked luxury cars near Chancery Rosewood House. The Daily Mail reported a Saudi Arabia-registered Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe towed as part of the crackdown, after the vehicle was parked on the pavement.
