Highway maintenance in Wandsworth gets biggest ever investment

Wandsworth has announced its “most ambitious” highway maintenance programme, with over £10million set to be invested in improving roads and pavements. This, the council says, will be the largest programme of its kind to be designed and delivered within a single year in Wandsworth.

The highway maintenance investment comes as part of the council’s Decade of Renewal, with a £100 million investment in our roads and pavements over 10 years. By more than doubling the annual investment in maintaining our roads and pavements from £4.75million in 23/24 to £10.25million in 25/26, pavements will be repaired and renewed, and many roads are set to be resurfaced.

This, according to a press release from the council, is part of its “goal to make journeys safer and more comfortable for residents, businesses, and visitors.”

The initiative prioritises improving safety and accessibility throughout the borough, addressing wear and tear to ensure roads and pavements meet the highest standards. Notification of works will be communicated locally, with measures such as night working where feasible in place to keep inconvenience to residents to a minimum.

As part of the new 7 rings, 7 days guarantee, if you report graffiti, a damaged street sign or a dangerous pothole, it will be fixed within seven days. Many roads are already scheduled for repair as part of the programme, but any dangerous potholes that are reported will be repaired within a week.

The 7 rings, 7 days guarantee aims to make it easier for residents to get in touch and ensure faster repairs across the borough. Calls to the dedicated 020 8871 6000 number will be answered by a member of staff within 7 rings. A new email address – hello@wandsworth.gov.uk – is also available for residents to get in touch.
