Grants launched to support access to sport and physical activity
Wandsworth is inviting organisations to apply for either of two grants to support “local sport, physical activity, and wellbeing initiatives” from a total grant pot of £405,000. The grants, it says, are paid by receipts from property developers “without adding a penny to Council Tax.
The Community Access Grant and the Women and Girls Grant both provide funding options for a “wide range of projects that align with the council’s strategic goals for inclusive, accessible, and sustainable physical activity. They make up part of its Wandsworth Moves Together strategy.
Organisations such as charities, trusts, schools, colleges, and universities can for either of the grantsapply to support schemes that provide opportunities and access to sport, physical activity, and wellbeing in Wandsworth. The deadline to apply is 15th February 2026. There is a two-stage application process, with the deadline for the first stage being 23 December 2025.
The Community Access Grant is designed to improve opportunities for underrepresented and disadvantaged groups to engage in sport and physical activity. Revenue grants are available to support programmes such as staffing, outreach, equipment, venue hire, and marketing, as long as they are within the borough and completed within a year. Support for infrastructure improvements such as renovations and accessibility upgrades are also available, as well as “structural enhancements that remove barriers to participation.”
The Women and Girls Grant hopes to “address the barriers that prevent women and girls from participating in sport and physical activity.” Grants are available for programme delivery and engagement activity tailored to female participants. One of eight identified barriers or target groups must be identified by applicants.
Applications must address at least one of eight identified barriers or target groups. It is also available to support physical improvements to facilities and equipment to “promote inclusive access for women and girls.”
Community and voluntary sector organisations, including charities, trusts, schools, colleges and universities are all welcome to apply, with each grant stream having specific eligibility criteria and deadlines. Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of expenditure and impact.
