Drop-in events from Wandsworth Council to help residents

Wandsworth Council is stepping up its community engagement with a series of monthly drop-in events aimed at supporting residents through the cost-of-living crisis and addressing local concerns such as housing repairs, overcrowding, and antisocial behaviour. These events, part of the Council’s wider “listening” initiative, are designed to make local services more responsive and accessible.

At the latest session in York Gardens Library, Council Leader Simon Hogg outlined key measures being introduced to better serve Wandsworth’s communities. Among them is the recruitment of 20 new Estate Managers who will work directly with residents to resolve issues faster and more efficiently.

One of the standout policies discussed is Wandsworth’s decision to freeze Council Tax for the third consecutive year. This move secures its status as offering the lowest Council Tax in the country, a significant relief for many during challenging economic times. Residents struggling financially can also benefit from what’s being called the most generous support package in London, offering a crucial safety net through the borough’s “Access for All” scheme. This initiative provides eligible residents with discounts of up to 100% on a wide range of services and local activities, keeping them affordable for everyone.

Speaking after the event, Simon Hogg emphasised the importance of listening to residents: “This is my local ward, and I feel passionately about acting on the issues raised. These conversations are vital to shaping better services.”

The Council is also backing its promises with clear guarantees. The newly introduced “7 rings, 7 days” commitment means calls to 020 8871 6000 will be answered by a staff member within seven rings. Reports of graffiti, broken signs, or potholes will be addressed within seven days—an initiative designed to boost pride in local neighbourhoods.
