Chelsea has beaten Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League, becoming the first club ever to finish a clean sweep of every European club trophy. As the Spanish side took the lead, Chelsea recovered with Cole Palmer assisting Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson.
Jadon Sancho then curled in a finish from Dewsbury-Hall, with Moises Caicedo adding a fourth to secure the win for the London side.
The comeback vindicated manager Enzo Maresca’s decision to send out Chelsea’s strongest squad in any Conference League game throughout the season. This gave the Blues the record of being the only side ever to have won all five UEFA club competitions, the Champions League (2012 and 2021), the Europa League (2019 and 2013), the Conference League, and the defunct Cup Winners’ Cup (1998 and 1971).
It also makes the Blues the first foreign team to beat a Spanish side in a European final since Valencia lost on penalties to Bayern Munich in 2001. Around a week earlier, Liverpool defeated Alaves in the UEFA Cup final 5-4 with a golden goal in extra time.
This comes a week after Tottenham lifted its first trophy in over a decade to win the Europa League with a 1-0 win over Manchester United.
