AMG ONE breaks its own record on the Nürburgring
The Mercedes-AMG ONE has made waves in the automotive world, not only for its unparalleled speed but also for its groundbreaking hybrid technology. Since October 2022, this hypercar has claimed the title of the fastest production car on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, a track known for its challenging layout. Recently, Maro Engel, Mercedes-AMG’s brand ambassador and DTM driver, set a new benchmark for this extraordinary vehicle, clocking an official lap time of 6:29.090 minutes—a remarkable improvement of over five seconds from its previous record. This achievement marks the first time a road-legal car has breached the 6:30-minute barrier.
Engel’s record lap was a culmination of meticulous preparation and ideal track conditions, including dry asphalt and optimal temperatures. Utilizing the AMG ONE’s advanced four-stage Energy Flow Control system, Engel strategically managed energy consumption and recuperation during the race. By employing a technique known as “lift and coast,” he effectively maximized the hybrid drive’s capabilities, demonstrating the sophisticated technology that underpins the car’s performance.
The AMG ONE’s engineering is a testament to the fusion of motorsport and road car performance. Powered by a 1.6-liter V6 hybrid engine paired with four electric motors, it delivers a staggering 782 kW (1,063 hp) which allows it to achieve its record breaking lap time.
Beyond speed, the AMG ONE features advanced technologies such as a lightweight carbon monocoque structure and fully variable all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. The vehicle’s aerodynamics are optimized through a Drag Reduction System, which reduces drag for high-speed sections while enhancing downforce in tighter corners. Engel selected the “Race Plus” driving program for the record lap, ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency and power output.
Mercedes-AMG continues to push the limits of automotive engineering. As Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, stated, “At AMG, we always want to push the boundaries of what is possible.”
With the AMG ONE, the line between road cars and Formula 1 technology has blurred, setting a new standard in the hypercar segment.
