St Paul’s Cathedral appoints new Succentor Timothy Miller

St Paul’s Cathedral has announced the appointment of the Reverend Timothy Miller as its new Succentor, a role that will see him take a leading part in shaping the daily rhythm of worship and music at the historic London landmark. Miller will officially begin his new position with a formal installation during Evensong on 14th September.

The role of Succentor, rooted in the Cathedral’s long choral and liturgical tradition, involves helping to plan and deliver the Cathedral’s services, both daily worship and major public occasions, with a particular focus on music. It’s a post that balances pastoral care for the Cathedral’s musicians with a close partnership alongside the Canon Precentor.

Speaking about the appointment, the Revd Canon Philip Banks, Precentor of St Paul’s, said the Cathedral was “thrilled” to welcome Timothy. “He brings a breadth of experience from ministry both here and abroad. His style of leadership and deep understanding of worship make him an ideal fit for this important post at the heart of our liturgical and musical life.”

Reverend Miller, who has been Priest in Charge at All Saints’ Church in Highgate since 2017, is no stranger to the Cathedral community. In fact, he has already been serving as a volunteer at St Paul’s since 2022 and has described his new appointment as a homecoming of sorts.

“From the first time I walked into St Paul’s Cathedral, I was caught up in the worship and history of the place,” he said. “It’s a huge joy to now step more deeply into its life and ministry.”

Ordained in 2014 following training at Cranmer Hall in Durham, Miller’s path to St Paul’s has been shaped by a combination of parish leadership and musical engagement. He brings not just a pastoral eye to the role, but a personal connection to the Cathedral and its mission. He added,

“It’s my hope that all who enter the Cathedral continue to find welcome, warmth, and space for reflection – whether they’re tourists, pilgrims, or members of the London community.”

He’ll be joined at St Paul’s by his wife Meagan and daughter Zahrya as the family settles into this next chapter in the heart of the City.
