Noha Chentouf elected as RBKC’s new Youth Mayor
Kensington & Chelsea has welcomed a new Youth Mayor, Noha Chentouf, following an election that saw 1,380 young residents casting their votes at pop-up polling stations across local schools and colleges. This significant turnout underscores the borough’s commitment to youth engagement and civic participation.
Noha Chentouf succeeds AJ Tumlos, who served a notable two-year term. During his tenure, Tumlos and the Youth Council advocated for increased access to local sports facilities and spearheaded fundraising efforts to construct a well in Gambia, highlighting the council’s dedication to both local and global community initiatives.
Expressing her gratitude, Chentouf stated, “Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. I’m so grateful to have been given this role.” Her election marks a continued emphasis on empowering young voices within the borough’s governance.
Councillor Sarah Addenbrooke, the lead member for communities, remarked, “Being part of a Youth Council is one of the best ways for young people to build their confidence, voice their views, and be involved in the community. A huge well done to all those who have got involved. I look forward to working with Noha and the new youth cabinet on the important issues affecting young residents.” This sentiment reflects the borough’s ongoing efforts to integrate youth perspectives into community decision-making.
The newly appointed Youth Council Cabinet includes Deputy Youth Mayor Emilia Raymonde-Cox, with cabinet members Stanley Reynolds (Communities), Tallulah Umuvyeyi (Community Safety), Akeera Belfon-George (Education), AJ Tumlos (Environment), Chantelle Munguli (Finance), and Maryam Ghafar (Mental Health). This diverse team is poised to address various facets of youth concerns, from mental health to environmental issues.
