New JD Wetherspoon Pub Opening in Former Ticket Office by Fulham Broadway Station

West London is about to welcome a new JD Wetherspoon pub following approval to convert a former ticket office into a two-storey pub and restaurant. This unused building, located near Fulham Broadway Station and previously functioning as a food court, will soon become a lively spot for locals and visitors alike.
The decision was made earlier this week by Hammersmith and Fulham Council, with several concessions agreed upon during the Licensing Sub-Committee meeting. JD Wetherspoon originally requested to start selling alcohol at 8 am, but this was pushed to 9 am. Additionally, off-sales will be confined to the pub’s terrace area.
Despite these adjustments, the proposal faced considerable opposition. A total of 20 objections were raised, including one from Ben Coleman, the local ward councillor and Deputy Leader of Hammersmith and Fulham. Concerns focused on the potential for increased crime and disorder and the implications of alcohol sales extending past midnight.
One local resident voiced their worries, stating, “In the three years that my husband and I have lived near the Fulham Broadway end of Barclay Road, we and our neighbours have been subjected to crime and disorder caused by excessive and late drinking. We need the assistance of LB Hammersmith and Fulham to start dialing back the levels of crime and disorder we are seeing on any given weekday or weekend. Late hours are a particular problem – please do not grant a license allowing the sale of alcohol after midnight at the Old Market Hall in Fulham Road.”
During the meeting, residents primarily objected to three key areas: the access to the roof, especially concerning the safety of children, the impact of off-sales, particularly during Chelsea FC home games, and the proposed opening and closing times.
The new JD Wetherspoon pub promises to be a notable addition to Fulham, despite the mixed reactions from the local community. The approval marks a new chapter for the former ticket office, transforming it into a bustling social hub while balancing the concerns of the local residents.
