Mental health support offered to students receiving results

Mental health support is being offered by a health trust to students receiving their exam results in August 2024. Sussex partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT) is offering help to  students through a text message service. The trust is shining a light on the service it offers to students who may be anxious of overwhelmed as their results are revealed.

“Recognising stress is very important, as many young people are under a lot of pressure but they might not know what some of those symptoms are, “ said Jodie Olliver, head of service for mental health at SPFT.

Students are told to use the Text SUSSEX to 85258 service to access the mental health support on offer. SPFT says that the service is free, discreet, and confidential for anyone to get help through their mobile phone.

“If you are experiencing extreme stress you might be experiencing stomach problems, insomnia and headaches,” Ms Olliver added. “A lot of people find it hard to relax and might withdraw from social activities.”

Students are receiving their AS and A-level results with GCSE results to follow on 22nd August.

Receiving exam results can be a highly stressful experience for students. Recognizing the signs of stress, such as insomnia, stomach issues, and social withdrawal, is crucial. Services like the SPFT’s text message support can provide a vital lifeline, offering free and confidential assistance to those feeling overwhelmed. As young people navigate this important time in their lives, having access to mental health support can make a significant difference in helping them cope with the pressures they face.
