RBKC to provide £100 support payments
Kensington & Chelsea Council will provide a £100 support payment to low-income households to “help the most vulnerable with “ongoing cost of living pressures.” The council’s leadership agreed to the payments which would see over 16,500 households benefiting from the additional payment.
Funded through the Council’s Cost of Living Reserve fund, the £100 payment is in addition to the Council’s wider support including the Council Tax Reduction Scheme helping those on low income to help pay their Council Tax.
The payment will be made in May 2024, targeted towards those who are in receipt of any Council Tax relief, Housing Benefit and households in receipt of the housing costs element of Universal Credit. In December 2023, a consultation on the scheme received nearly 1400 responses with overwhelming support. Eligible residents will be sent details of the scheme in early March 2024.
“Inflation and energy costs have fallen in the last year, but we know many families are still feeling the pinch due to cost-of-living pressures,” Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member for Finance, Customer Delivery and Net Zero said. “This £100 payment is money back in the pockets of those who need it most.
