London Fire Brigade’s Fire (LFB) Investigation Team is informing the public about certain heat pump tumble dryers from eight brands, and a safety modification taking place. The heat pump tumble dryers are from the following brands:Haier, Hoover, Candy, Caple, Baumatic, Iberna, Lamona, and Montpellier.
Multiple incidents have highlighted that it is possible for an internal short circuit within the appliance during use, creating a risk of fire. As a result, the Office for Product and Safety Standards (OPSS), and the manufacturers have issued “clear guidance” to stop using them immediately and contact the manufacturer to arrange for the modification to take place. If the pug is accessible, the LFB advises to switch it off and unplug the appliance.
The modification programme initially began after reports of incidents, having already reached around 17,000 of the over 100,000 affected units. The original repair, according to the LFB, “did not fully eliminate the fire risk, and the programme was temporarily paused.”
The issue, it said, “has now been resolved,” and the updated modification programme officially recommenced early in September 2025.
“The Brigade is stressing that all owners should follow the latest safety advice, even if their appliance was previously modified under the earlier programme,” it said.
