Cycling link to connect north and south of borough

Work is now underway to create a “missing cycling link” to connect the north and south of the borough. The “new and improved” crossing points on Shepherds Bush Green will, according to the council, “create safer walking and cycling connections,” with Rockley Road due to reopen on 22nd September

The work will also create a direct cycling link between Shepherds Bush tube station to the southern side of the borough.

The 14-week project between TfL and Hammersmith & Fulham council promises to “help improve waking and cycling” around Shepherds Bush Green. The “new and improved” crossing points will “help manage crowds more safely,” making it “safer and easier to navigate the area for the millions of people who visit the Westfield shopping centre” and the White City Innovation District each year.

Rockley Road will remain closed until 22 September as the improvements continue. The road was originally planned to reopen on Monday 15th September but will now remain closed for an additional week. Diversions for those heading to West12 shopping centre will run via Shepherds Bush Road and Minford Gardens.

Local shops and businesses will remain accessible throughout the closure and temporary traffic lights will manage traffic and pedestrian safety while the work is underway.

The works, Hammersmith & Fulham council says, form part of its “plan to clean our air and help local people make healthier transport choices across the borough.” This includes a new pedestrian crossing east of Shepherds Bush Green and safety upgrades to the Rockley Road crossing, including wider pavements and better street lighting. The improvements will create a new cycling link that will connect Shepherds Bush tube station directly to Rockley Road via Shepherds Bush Green.

“It will give families and commuters a safe, direct way to cycle between north and south of the borough,” it added, “something that’s been missing until now.”
