Richmond Opera presents Handel’s Alexander’s Feast
Richmond Opera has announced its first performance ever, Handel’s Alexander’s Feast, at the “historic and beautiful” St Marys University Chapel. The performance will take place on Saturday 15th November 2025, at 7pm.
“Under the baton” of Lindsay Bramley, the Richmond Opera Baroque Orchestra, soloists, and chorus is set to perform the “exuberant secular oratorio,” Alexander’s Feast by Handel, to be sung in English. The Concerto Grosso in C major, also by Handel, “the sparkling work” that the internationally renowned and world-famous composer created in 1736 for the original oratorio, will also be included at the evening event by Richmond Opera.
Alexander’s Feast is the “vivid story” of a banquet held by Alexnader the Great along with his mistress Thaïs, in the Persian city of Persepolis which he had conquered. Timotheus, as the musician, both sings and plays his music, and in doing so, “stirs a cascade of emotion” from Alexander the Great, which include love and pride, as well as fury. It ultimately results in him burning the city as a revenge for fallen Greek soldiers.
Tickets are £17, or £8.50 for under-18s, and are available now. You can book online or call 0333 666 3366.
