Dockless e-bikes seized by City of London

The City of London Corporation says it has undertaken on-street action to remove dockless e-bikes from streets and pavements in the Square Mile. This has been done in places where they have been found to “obstruct or cause an immediate danger to others.”
More than 100 dockless bikes have been confiscated over a two-week enforcement period in the City. The goal of the City Corporation is to “encourage hire operators to manage their own fleet and customers to comply with good parking behaviour,” according to a press release.
The seized e-bikes were stored in a “safe location for 24 hours” before the providers were able to collect them for a fee. The fee covered the cost of removal and storage to the City.
“The City Corporation already has agreements in place with hire operators around where people should park bikes, but in response to the scale of complaints received, introduced its own clean-up campaign, to reduce pavement obstructions caused by poorly parked bikes,”
the press release said.
An additional 300 parking spaces for dockless hire bikes have been committed throughout the Square Mile ensuring that users can “park safely and considerately.” The City Corporation says it will continue to work closely with other London Councils and TfL “to deliver consistent enforcement legislation across the entire capital.”
Lime and Forest have both said that they are committed to improving their service. Lime has launched a safe riding campaign which hopes to promote responsible cycling and adherence to the Highway Code. It also said it would fund new parking bays in the City through its Parking Infrastructure Fund.
