Sir David at 99: A New Story Begins at the Natural History Museum

As he approaches his 99th birthday, David Attenborough’s Our Story is the latest reason Londoners have to celebrate the living legend of British broadcasting. On 8th May, Attenborough turns 99. Just weeks later, a brand-new immersive experience, Our Story with David Attenborough, opens at the Natural History Museum, offering visitors a completely different way of seeing the story of humanity through the eyes of the man who has shaped generations of environmental storytelling.

This 50-minute documentary isn’t headed to the telly just yet, and it’s not quite like anything else he’s done. Instead of your typical television release, Our Story will unfold across the walls and floors of the Natural History Museum’s Jerwood Gallery, taking full advantage of the venue’s immersive capabilities. It promises a powerful narrative driven by Attenborough’s signature calm authority – not just about where we’ve come from, but what comes next.

“I hope visitors of all ages will experience our extraordinary journey and come away feeling empowered,”

Attenborough said, hinting at a message that’s both urgent and hopeful. In a world where climate change, biodiversity loss and resource consumption dominate headlines, David Attenborough Our Story aims to place those themes into the wider frame of our evolution, asking us not only to understand our impact, but to rethink our role.

The exhibition opens to the public on Wednesday 19th June 2025, with tickets priced from £20. General booking opens on Wednesday 22nd May, and demand is expected to be high, given the perennial popularity of both Attenborough and the museum itself. You can check out full visitor information and purchase tickets directly through the Natural History Museum’s website.

The film arrives just a few weeks after the cinema release of Ocean, another new Attenborough documentary set to debut on Disney+ later this year – a reminder, if we needed it, that the broadcaster’s work remains in constant motion.

For EyeOnLondon readers interested in cultural events that cross science, storytelling and sustainability, this is one not to miss. And with the Natural History Museum itself just a short walk from South Kensington station, it’s a chance to engage with the story of our species in a place dedicated to understanding life on Earth.
