City of London Students Excel in GCSE Results Across Multiple Academies

Students across the City of London Academies Trust have been celebrating after receiving their GCSE examination results, marking a significant achievement for both the students and their schools. The Trust, which oversees secondary schools in Hackney, Islington, and Southwark, has reported record-breaking results, reflecting the hard work and determination of Year 11 pupils.

In a year filled with challenges, students at the City of London Academy Southwark achieved the best results in the academy’s history, with an impressive 77% of pupils securing a Level 4 pass or above in both English and Maths. Similarly, the City of London Academy Shoreditch Park, which opened in 2017, celebrated its best results to date, with 83% of students achieving the same benchmark.

Other notable achievements include City Academy Hackney, where 80% of pupils earned a Level 4 pass or above in both core subjects, and City of London Academy Islington, where 60% of students met the standard. Both City of London Academy Highbury Grove and City of London Academy Highgate Hill saw 63% of their students achieve a Level 4 pass or above in English and Maths.

Mark Emmerson, Chief Executive Officer of the City of London Academies Trust, praised the students and teachers for their dedication. “We are unashamedly ambitious for all our students across our CoLAT schools. The results are a true testament to the dedication and hard work demonstrated every day by our students and teachers alike,” he said. Emmerson also highlighted the success of the founding academy in Southwark, which achieved its best A-level and GCSE results in history this summer.

The Trust’s commitment to excellence is evident, with all schools within the Corporation-led multi-academy trust judged to be ‘Good’ or better by Ofsted, and half now rated as ‘Outstanding’. The Trust oversees 10 high-performing academies across Hackney, Islington, Newham, and Southwark, in addition to a primary school in the City of London and four independent schools.

Catherine McGuinness, Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, extended her congratulations to the students. “Congratulations to the class of 2024. Your hard work, resilience, and determination have been rewarded, and we wish you all the best as you step into the next phase of life,” she said.

The success of these students highlights the ongoing efforts of the City of London Corporation to provide top-tier education opportunities, helping young Londoners to reach their full potential in what is increasingly recognised as a global education capital.
