Vancouver Auto Show removes Tesla

Organisers of the Vancouver Auto Show have removed Tesla on the eve of the event. The electric car manufacturer has been dropped from the list of exhibitors and all references to Elon Musk’s firm have been taken out of the show’s website. This comes as the billionaire owner faces backlash for his role in the Donald Trump administration and a potential trade war between the US and Canada.

“The Vancouver International Auto Show has removed Tesla as a participant in this week’s event, after the automaker was provided multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw,” Eric Nicholl, the show’s executive director, said in a statement. “The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event.”

The Vancouver Auto Show opens on Wednesday 19th of March and plans to run through the weekend.

Elon Musk has been a key part of Trump’s threats against Canada, writing on X that it is “not a real country.” A petition to revoke his Canadian citizenship on grounds that he has “engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada” and “attacked Canadian sovereignty” has gained hundreds of thousands of signatures.

British Colombia recently took Tesla off the list of products eligible for provincial subsidies. The province saw protests last week at Tesla dealership. South of the border, the company’s dealerships have been vandalised and several cars were torched.

Musk denounced it as “domestic terrorism” and “evil attacks” on his firm in posts on  X.

“My companies make great products that people love and I’ve never physically hurt anyone,” he wrote in a now deleted post. “So why the hate and violence against me? Because I am a deadly threat to the woke mind parasite and the humans it controls.”
