South Africa court calls “white genocide” Musk claim “imagined”
A high court in South Africa has ruled that claims supported by Elon Musk of a genocde targeting white people was “imagined.” A judge in the Western Cape high court said that claims that black people had intended to wipe out the white population was a claim that has been historically claimed to support white nationalism in the nation.
The ruling comes as the court begins to set aside the will of an individual who had left £1.7 million towards a right-wing paramilitary group for illegal training. Judge Rosheni Allie ruled that it was invalid because it was contrary to national public policy and “promoted racial hatred.”
Boerelegioen is a self-styled civil defence group. On its website, it claims that its goal is to “enable the citizens to resist the promised slaughter of whites in [the Republic of South Africa] as well as the theft of their property”.
South African Judge Rosheni Allie said in the ruling that the paramilitary group glorified apartheid.
“The only expression of the testator’s intention that is evident is the intention for the funds to be used for ‘training’, as well as the testator’s own assertions that he wanted the funds used to benefit an organisation which he deemed to be one which will ‘exterminate every black person in SA’ and will be used to defend or ward off a white genocide, which is clearly imagined and not real,” she said.
Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa, has recently used social media to reiterate claims of a genocide towards white people in the country. He accused the radical Marxist Economic Freedom Fighters party of “openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa”, and the African National Congress-led government of not doing enough to stop it.
US president Donald Trump, who chose Musk to be in his cabinet, has cut aid to South Africa recently. He accused it of discrimination against the white population, offering them an opportunity to settle in America.
