Hammersmith’s new outdoor gym brings accessible equipment to fitness fans and novices
Fitness enthusiasts and beginners alike can now enjoy a brand-new outdoor gym in Hammersmith Park in White City, thanks to Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) Council’s latest initiative. Installed near Wood Crescent entrance in White City, this marks the eighth outdoor gym in the borough, responding to community requests made earlier this year.
“This new outdoor gym is open to everyone and is entirely free to use,” said Cllr Sharon Holder, H&F Cabinet Member for Public Realm, who inaugurated the gym on Thursday, 18th July. “Come on down and try it out with your friends and learn a new exercise. The equipment is accessible for wheelchair users too to ensure everyone can enjoy getting fit outdoors.”
A Variety of Workout Options
The outdoor gym boasts 11 workout stations, designed to cater to both cardio and body weight exercises. The equipment lineup includes:
- Leg press
- Weighted bench press
- Calisthenics unit with accessible parallel bars
- Cross trainer
- Stationary bike
Accessibility is a key feature, with several stations such as an arm pedal bike and a chest press station specifically designed for wheelchair users.
Access equals uptake?
According to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), more adults are active in areas with a higher number of sports facilities.
