Owners of Lexus and Abarth faced a proportionally higher chance of having their car stolen. Five Lexus models were among the top 10 most at-risk. On the other hand, TVR and Tesla owners can sleep soundly, with these brands being the least likely to be targeted.
The Ford Fiesta however tops the rankings with 4,719 stolen last year. That’s more than double the next most targeted car, the VW Golf. While Lexus and Abarth may be disproportionately targeted, Ford was the most stolen brand, followed by BMW. However, there are 4.3 million Fords on the country’s roads.
When looked at proportionally, Ford drops to 13th place, seeing just a one in 460 chance of being taken. Abarth on the other hand has a one in 116 chance of being stolen. Lexus comes in second with the RX450 SUV being especially popular with thieves. The model faces a one in 39 chance of being stolen, while the ES300 saloon faces a one in 30 chance.
At the other end of the rankings is Tesla with a reassuring one in 7,031 chance of being taken. Only 33 Teslas were reported stolen last year with the Model 3 accounting for nearly half.
Last year, Range Rover awas in the spotlight with insurance rates skyrocketing as a result. But the data paints a different picture.
