e-cargo bikes available to hire

Kensington & Chelsea Council is partnering with OurBike to offer e-cargo bikes as “a practical, low-emission alternative to car and van journeys for families, community groups and local businesses.” The bike can be hired via the OurBike app, with residents getting an hour’s use free when they sign up and businesses able to trial the bike for up to three free hours. After that, the bike can be hired for £5 an hour, in 15-minute increments.

Getting started is easy. Simply download the OurBike app, register with a photo ID, and you’re ready to book and ride.

The e-cargo bike will be hosted and maintained by local organisation The SPACE, on Freston Road, where it is kept secure, charged, and ready for use. The service uses a back-to-base model, meaning it starts and ends at the same designated location.

The SPACE plans to use the e-cargo bike for a range of community initiatives, including delivering not just fresh food but household essentials from its Baby Bank and wider support programmes. By expanding its delivery capacity, The SPACE will be able to reach more vulnerable adults and families and respond faster to urgent needs.

This e-cargo bike initiative is made possible through the Future Neighbourhoods 2030 programme, which supports local projects tackling climate change and inequality. The Notting Dale neighbourhood has been identified as a priority area for investment in active travel and sustainable transport.

The scheme is part of a growing network of OurBike locations across London, this will be the 55th bike in the capital.
