Elizabeth Line Drivers Set to Strike Over Pay Dispute
Londoners relying on the Elizabeth line for their daily commute will need to plan ahead, as train drivers have announced a series of strikes over the next month. Members of the Aslef union have voted to take industrial action in a dispute over pay, with walkouts planned on 27th February, 1st March, 8th March, and 10th March. The Elizabeth line strike involves nearly 500 drivers who have rejected a proposed 4.5% pay increase from MTR Elizabeth line, the company responsible for operating the service. The union argues that its members deserve better recognition for their role in the success of the Elizabeth line, which has quickly become one of London’s busiest transport routes.
MTR Elizabeth line has expressed disappointment at the decision to strike, stating that the offer maintains some of the highest salaries in the industry. The company has also warned that disruption will be inevitable, although efforts will be made to keep passengers informed of alternative travel options.
The Elizabeth line serves key areas across London, connecting Abbey Wood to Heathrow Terminal 4. Stations expected to be affected include major transport hubs such as Liverpool Street, Paddington, and Tottenham Court Road. Delays and cancellations are likely on all strike days, with passengers advised to check for updates and consider alternative routes.
This latest dispute adds to the ongoing challenges facing London’s transport network, as unions and operators continue to negotiate over pay, working conditions, and recognition of staff contributions. While discussions may continue, commuters should prepare for significant disruption on strike days.
