Top 25 Things to Do in the City of London This April
With spring now in full swing, there are plenty of things to do in the City of London this April, from exhibitions and gardens in bloom to a lively calendar of cultural events. Whether you’re a long-time Londoner or planning a visit, our April guide rounds up 25 of the best ways to enjoy the Square Mile through art, food, and family-friendly experiences.
This year, tours of the fascinating Billingsgate Roman House and Baths return on Saturdays from 5th April. It’s one of the capital’s best-preserved Roman sites, a hidden layer of history under the modern financial district.

Meanwhile, over at Guildhall Art Gallery, Evelyn De Morgan’s work is back for a centenary exhibition with “pay what you can” entry. It’s joined by a Second Saturday family day and Turner’s View at Hythe, on display for the first time in 20 years as part of the Turner 250 celebration.
If music is your thing, the National Open Youth Orchestra is performing on 27th April—an inclusive, boundary-pushing group using both acoustic and electronic instruments. And for a completely different kind of soundscape, head to Black Sound London at the Barbican Music Library. The free exhibition celebrates over a century of British black music and its journey into the mainstream.

Among the family-friendly highlights, Dr Johnson’s House offers costumed word games and treasure trails on 5th April, while Roman mosaic workshops run on 8th and 9th. Combine that with guided tours, cherry blossom spotting, or a rooftop view from The Garden at 120 and you’ve got a packed day out without leaving the Square Mile.
Food lovers are well catered for too. BOXHALL City, a new food hall by BOXPARK, opens on 10th April, bringing an eclectic mix of emerging and established food brands to a restored Edwardian arcade. For something more indulgent, try brunch at Lucky Cat Bishopsgate by Gordon Ramsay or the new weekday “Sunset” happy hour at The Ivy Asia.
Running fans won’t want to miss the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 6th April. This year’s event weaves through history with centurion drills, Roman object handling, and family-friendly tours – all backed by 500+ partner charities.

If all that’s not enough, round off the month at the Barbican Theatre with Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape or Hamlet by Teatro La Plaza, performed by a powerful cast with Down’s Syndrome. Alternatively, browse an art trail of 2ft egg sculptures dotted across iconic locations, or relax with a drink on the sunken lawn at Festival Garden by St Paul’s Cathedral.
And if you’re in the mood to give back, 12th April sees a Give and Take Day at Portsoken Community Centre – a brilliant way to declutter and pick up something new while reducing waste.
With a diverse mix of culture, food, sport, history, and green spaces, this April is the perfect excuse to get reacquainted with one of the oldest and most fascinating parts of the capital.
