London Warms Up to Ibiza-Like Temperatures This Week

The Capital is set to enjoy a taste of summer this week, with temperatures climbing as high as 17°C on 21st March, making the London warmer as Ibiza. As spring officially begins, much of the UK will see a welcome shift in weather, with parts of southern England expected to hit 19°C, around eight degrees above the seasonal average. Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell explained that

“we’re expecting quite a lot of dry weather, increasing amounts of sunshine as we head through the next few days.”

The shift in conditions is being driven by a large area of high pressure, which often brings settled, dry weather.

For Londoners, this means shedding winter coats in favour of lighter layers as the sunshine takes hold. By midweek, temperatures will already be climbing, with the capital set to hit 17°C on 20th March before peaking the following day. Meanwhile, other parts of the UK, including the Midlands and Wales, will also enjoy unseasonably warm conditions, while only northern Scotland is expected to remain cooler.

The contrast between the start of the week and the latter half is particularly striking. Monday and Tuesday will still bring a chill, with daytime highs around 9°C, close to the seasonal norm but feeling cooler due to a brisk wind. However, the second half of the week will see a rapid warm-up, with Thursday’s high of 19°C making parts of England hotter than Corfu, which is forecast to reach only 16°C.

While sunshine and rising temperatures will be a welcome change, forecasters warn that the warm spell could be brief, with cooler conditions potentially returning towards the end of the month. As always, the British weather remains unpredictable.

For those keen to soak up the early spring warmth, now is the time to plan outdoor activities. Whether it’s a stroll along the Thames, a lunch break in Hyde Park, or simply enjoying a longer evening outside, Londoners can make the most of the warm spell while it lasts.
