Fulwell Bus Garage Access Day lets residents explore accessibility
Londoners seeking to better understand accessible transport options are invited to the Fulwell Bus Garage Access Day on Friday, 16th May 2025. Hosted by local charity Ruils Independent Living in partnership with First Bus London, this free event aims to bridge the gap between transport providers and the community, focusing on inclusivity and accessibility.
From 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, attendees can explore the Fulwell Bus Garage in Twickenham (TW2 5NX), engaging directly with bus drivers and staff. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour two different buses, examine built-in accessibility and safety features, and visit the control room to gain insight into daily operations. A complimentary Hidden Disabilities sunflower lanyard will be available for those who wish to discreetly indicate they may need additional support.
The event is open to everyone, with a special emphasis on welcoming disabled individuals, carers, and those with mobility needs. The venue is fully accessible, and a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter will be present to assist attendees. To ensure accommodations are met, participants are encouraged to register in advance through the Ruils website.
Ruils Independent Living is a user-led charity dedicated to supporting disabled children and adults, as well as individuals with long-term health and mental health conditions, in leading independent lives. Their services include information, advice, advocacy, befriending, and various activities tailored to residents’ needs.
This Access Day not only provides a hands-on experience with accessible transport but also fosters dialogue between the community and transport providers. By participating, attendees can share their experiences, voice concerns, and contribute to the ongoing conversation about improving accessibility in London’s public transport system.
