Nearly four years after first buying the company, BMW has completed its acquisition of Alpina, with future models focusing on a “unique balance of maximum performance and superior driving comfort,” according to the company.
BMW first acquired Alpina in 2022, but thanks to an agreement with its founders, the Bovensiepen family, it has allowed it to remain a separate entity since then. But that agreement came to an end in 2025, and the former tuning company will be relaunched as an “an exclusive standalone brand.”
Now known as BMW Alpina, it joins BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce in the company’s portfolio. The focus will begin on “brand activation” meaning that there has been nothing about future products. Former Polestar design chief Max Missoni has reportedly been given the charge of the design for the brand.
One focus will be ensuring its models are distinct from the company’s M performance division BMW says that “key elements of the BMW Alpina brand are its unique balance of maximum performance and superior ride comfort, combined with hallmark driving characteristics.”
There will be a “remarkable portfolio” of bespoke options, with a focus on high-quality materials and craftsmanship, BMW says, adding that each vehicle will be “an exclusive object for connoisseurs in pursuit of the extraordinary, without compromises on performance, comfort and individuality.”
