Jessie J reveals early breast cancer diagnosis ahead of Wembley performance

Jessie J has revealed she’s been diagnosed with early breast cancer, just weeks before she’s due to take the stage at Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium.

The 37-year-old singer shared the news in a video posted to Instagram, telling fans she’s set to have surgery shortly after the London performance. “Cancer sucks in any form,” she said, “but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.”

Known for her humour as much as her honesty, the Price Tag star added, “It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job… I’ll come back with massive [boobs] and more music.”

Jessie said she’s been “in and out of tests” recently, and has chosen to speak publicly not only to help her process what she’s going through, but to reach others dealing with similar diagnoses.

‘I need to process it — and I need a hug’

In the video, she explained:

“I just wanted to be open and share it. One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard.”

“But I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories. I’m an open book.”

The singer, who gave birth to her first child last year, said the experience had given her “incredible perspective,” but admitted:

“Honestly, I need to process it and talk about it, and I need a hug.”

“You have loved me through all my good and hard times. And I don’t want this to be any different.”

Among those sending their support was TV and radio presenter Gaby Roslin, who commented: “So much love and enormous hugs.”

An ongoing health journey

Jessie J has never shied away from talking about her health. She was diagnosed with a heart condition as a child, suffered a stroke in her teens, and temporarily lost her hearing in 2020 due to Meniere’s disease. Last year, she also revealed she has ADHD and OCD.

Her openness has helped shape the way fans relate to her – not just as a performer, but as someone who talks honestly about the ups and downs of life.

She’s due to appear at Radio 2 in the Park in September, and fans will be watching closely to see how she’s doing as she recovers from surgery.

A reminder to all women

Breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer among women in the UK. According to NHS advice, checking your breasts regularly can help you spot changes early – whether in size, shape, or how they feel.

Jessie J’s message is a reminder that openness and early detection matter. And while she may be stepping away from the spotlight briefly, her story is resonating with people across the country.
