Look out this Sunday 27th July for the UEFA Women’s Euro final as England will take on Spain. For the Lionesses, it is their third consecutive major final, following the 2022 Euros which they won 2-1, and the 2023 World Cup which saw Spain lift the trophy. The final will kick off at 6pm local time, 5pm UK time, at St Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland, the home of FC Basel.
Prince William is among those confirmed to be in attendance, being the patron of the Football Association (FA).
The Lionesses did not have an easy route to the final, being drawn in a group with France, the Netherlands, and Wales. Three experienced players, Mary Earps, Fran Kirby, and Millie Bright were all absent from the tournament.
The opening game against France ended with a 2-1 defeat but wins against the Netherlands and Wales took them through to the knockout rounds. A dramatic penalty shootout win over Sweden sent them through before a dramatic 2-1 win over Italy after extra time, thanks to Michelle Agyemang’s equaliser in the 96th minute, before Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal.
Spain, meanwhile won over Germany 1-0. The reigning world champions are undefeated on route to the final and have reached the Women’s Euro final for the first time in history.
