Westminster Council Launches Mini Community Hubs in Victoria and Charing Cross
Westminster City Council is launching new mini community hubs in Victoria and Charing Cross, opening three days a week. These hubs will offer a range of summer activities and access to council support services, designed to meet the needs of local residents as part of the #2035 initiative to reduce health inequality.
Developed through engagement with the community, these hubs use existing spaces in Victoria and Charing Cross Libraries, making them more welcoming and accessible. Another hub is set to open in the north of the borough later this year.
Local resident Andre from Charing Cross praised the initiative, stating, “It’s fantastic, especially for those who are not digitally savvy, to have physical face-to-face events. I am looking forward to seeing it in action!”
The Charing Cross hub will provide a variety of council services, including housing advice, financial support, and health and wellbeing services. Partnering with local organisations, the hub will offer summer activities such as breakdancing, drama classes, and yoga sessions.
The Victoria Library Community Hub will feature a community room and a makerspace room, offering a stimulating environment for creative activities. The summer programme includes children’s crafts, doodle clubs, and carpentry DIY sessions.
John, a regular visitor to Victoria Library, commented, “Running more events here will bring neighbours together and help tackle loneliness.”
Councillor Cara Sanquest, Cabinet Member for Communities, said, “We are proud to launch these projects to tackle health and social inequalities by improving face-to-face access to services and providing opportunities for free inclusive activities.”
