Last year’s show was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The programme included a performance from the new Paddington Bear musical and concluded with a 400-strong cast presenting a Les Misérables medley to mark the production’s 40th anniversary.

Giles Cooper, executive producer of the Royal Variety Performance and chairman of the Royal Variety Charity, said:

“The Royal Variety Charity is thrilled that the Royal Variety Performance will be returning to the iconic Royal Albert Hall this year after our very successful, five star reviewed show in 2025, attended by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales.”

He described the gala as:

“An annual great British institution,”

adding that it provides:

“Crucial fundraising” for people working in “our much-loved entertainment industry”.

The event raises funds for the Royal Variety Charity, of which the King is patron. The charity supports people from the entertainment industry who require care and assistance, including residents at Brinsworth House in Twickenham, its residential care home for retired performers.

In 2024, the organisation established a mental health sub-committee to support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, addiction and other challenges linked to financial instability and the unpredictable nature of work in the entertainment sector.

The Royal Variety Performance dates back to 1912, when King George V and Queen Mary attended the first Royal Command Performance in aid of the Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund.

According to the charity, the televised show reaches a global audience of around 154 million viewers.
