Radio 2 selects Stirling for flagship summer festival
This summer, BBC Radio 2 will stage its flagship live music festival in Stirling, marking the station’s first major event in Scotland for seven years and positioning the city as host to tens of thousands of visitors in August.
Radio 2 in the Park will take place at City Park from 7 to 9 August. The announcement was made by breakfast presenter Scott Mills on Thursday morning, though the full artist line-up and ticketing details are yet to be released.

For Stirling, the booking represents both cultural visibility and economic opportunity. Council leader Susan McGill described it as a major boost for the city and surrounding region, while Radio 2 head Helen Thomas said presenters were “hugely excited” to bring the station’s annual showcase north of the border.
The National Wallace Monument and the Tolbooth music venue were illuminated in orange on Thursday evening to mark the decision. The park itself received a £750,000 investment last year aimed at strengthening its credentials as a leading sustainable outdoor events space.
Radio 2 in the Park rotates annually between cities. Last year’s edition was held in Chelmsford, with Preston hosting in 2024. The Stirling weekend will be the first large-scale Radio 2 event in Scotland since BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend at Scone Castle in 2018.
The choice reflects a broader BBC strategy of distributing major cultural events beyond traditional metropolitan centres. For Stirling, it places the city on the national summer music calendar at a moment when regional event infrastructure is increasingly tied to long-term economic planning.
