North Paddington communities to get £4.75m boost
North Paddington residents will benefit from a “major” £4.75 million investment from Westminster City Council. The funding will provide “improvements to local community spaces and backing grassroots projects that support skills, jobs, and wellbeing,” the council says.
The investment will combine a £4.5 million Community Capital Grants Fund with over £175,000 from the North Paddington Community Chest Fund. These will deliver “both long-term improvements to much-loved local facilities and immediate support for projects that help residents learn, connect, and thrive.”
The Community Capital Grants help community-run organisations renovate and revitalise vital spaces in Harrow Road, Queens Park, and Westbourne. This includes:
- Paddington Arts – £1.4m to expand youth programmes and improve facilities.
- Walterton & Elgin Community Homes (WECH) – £1.1m to modernise kitchens, playgrounds, and nursery spaces.
- Grand Junction – over £700,000 to boost accessibility, replace equipment, and repair water damage.
- Floating Classroom – £430,000 to improve sustainability and accessibility of its educational canal boat.
- St Luke’s, St John’s, and Westbourne Park Baptist Church – more than £420,000 to increase safety, eco-friendliness, and accessibility.
- Paddington Law Centre – £35,000 to upgrade technology for free legal advice.
- LDN London and Tell It Parents – £160,000 to improve spaces supporting families and people with learning disabilities.
Along with these bigger capital projects, the North Paddington Community Chest will invest £175,000 into ten organisations that offer training, counselling, and creative opportunities. Beneficiaries include The WEPT Project (fashion and textiles training), Wondering CIC (storytelling and wellbeing workshops), Women’s Trust (counselling for women affected by domestic abuse), and Paddington Development Trust (employment and digital skills training).
These projects form a “key part” of Westminster City Council’s wider £20 million North Paddington Programme “designed to address inequalities, empower residents, and create welcoming, resilient communities for years to come.”
