National Gallery Sleepover: Win a night in the Sainsbury wing

In a first for the UK, the National Gallery is offering one lucky art enthusiast the chance to spend a night among masterpieces in its newly refurbished Sainsbury Wing. This unique sleepover experience celebrates the gallery’s 200th anniversary and the unveiling of its comprehensive rehang, “CC Land: The Wonder of Art.”

The winner will enjoy an overnight stay on 9th May 2025, in a bed situated on the bridge connecting the Sainsbury Wing to the rest of the gallery. The bed will feature linens from the Marks & Spencer X National Gallery collection. The evening includes a private tour of the reimagined collection, showcasing over 1,000 Western European artworks spanning the 13th to 20th centuries, and dinner for two at the soon-to-open Locatelli restaurant, led by Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli. The experience concludes with a breakfast hamper and exclusive early access to the gallery before it opens to the public at 10am on 10th May.

To enter the prize draw, individuals over 18 must subscribe to the National Gallery’s newsletter by 6pm on 28th April 2025. Current subscribers are automatically entered. This initiative marks the first time the National Gallery has offered an overnight stay, providing an intimate encounter with its renowned collection.

The Sainsbury Wing’s £85 million transformation, led by architect Annabelle Selldorf, enhances visitor experience with improved lighting, thematic groupings, and a more welcoming entrance. The rehang offers a fresh perspective on the gallery’s holdings, including iconic works like Leonardo da Vinci’s “Virgin of the Rocks.”

This sleepover opportunity aligns with the gallery’s NG200 programme, a year-long celebration of its bicentenary, featuring events and exhibitions across the UK and online.
