Kiefer Sutherland arrested after Hollywood ride-share incident
Actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested in Los Angeles following what police described as a Hollywood ride-share incident, in which a driver alleged he was assaulted and threatened during a late-night journey.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident took place shortly after midnight at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Officers said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle at around 12.15am local time and became involved in an altercation with the driver.

In a statement, police said the actor “physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats”. The driver was not injured and no weapon was reported to be involved. Sutherland was taken into custody at the scene and later released after posting a $50,000 bond. He is expected to appear in court on 2 February.
The case is being handled by the LAPD’s Hollywood Division, which confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Representatives for Sutherland have been approached for comment.
Sutherland, who holds British and Canadian citizenship, is best known for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the television series 24, as well as for portraying a fictional US president in Designated Survivor. He is also the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland.
The Hollywood ride-share incident is not the first time the actor has encountered legal difficulties. In 2007, he served a prison sentence for drink-driving and probation violations in California. An assault charge brought two years later was dropped, while a more recent arrest in 2020 followed a traffic offence.
The episode has renewed attention on the safety of ride-share drivers and passengers, an issue that has also been examined in the UK. Organisations such as the Suzy Lamplugh Trust have repeatedly warned that late-night transport interactions can carry heightened risks, particularly when alcohol is involved.
For now, the focus remains on the legal process, with police emphasising that no further details will be released until the investigation is complete.
