Hercules comes to the West End

Disney’s beloved 1997 film, Hercules, is coming to the West End stage with an exciting new musical adaptation. The musical comedy tells the tale of the son of Zeus and Hera who grows up on Earth after being made mortal by Hades. However, Hercules still has his super strength, spending his life feeling like an outsider.

When he learns his origin as a demigod, he seeks to become a hero, return to Mount Olympus, and “put the glad in gladiator.”

Hercules in London will include many of your favourite songs from the movie, including Go The Distance which received the 1998 Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, as well as From Zero to Hero, and I Won’t Say I’m in Love.

This show has been in the works for several years. In 2017, Alan Menken announced he would be working on the music for a stage version of the Disney classic. Since then, the production has been created with multiple talents, including Olivier Award nominee, Kwame Kwei-Armah, and Tony Award winner Robert Horn, the writer of the musical book.

The show premiered Off-Broadway in 2019 at the Manhattan’s Delacorte Theater in Central Park. It was then played at the Paper Mill Playhouse in neighbouring New Jersey in 2023 and 2024 before opening in Hamburg in Germany.

Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, responsible for Some Like It Hot and The Book of Mormon will be the director. This is not his first Disney stage adaption, having also directed the Broadway version of Aladdin.
