From the Square Mile to the skies: Jet2 opens flight training to all backgrounds

From the Square Mile to the skies is no longer just a dream. A fully funded pilot training programme is offering City of London residents the chance to take off in a brand-new direction.

Jet2.com has launched Jet2FlightPath, a pioneering initiative aimed at removing the financial barriers that keep many people grounded. With places for 60 successful applicants, the programme offers full sponsorship of commercial pilot training, a path that would normally cost over £100,000.

The offer is open to individuals from all walks of life, and you don’t need any flying experience to apply. If you’ve got five GCSEs (including maths and a science), a sharp mind, and a desire to train, this may be your route out of the office and into the cockpit.

Candidates will complete an 18-month Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) course in the UK, Spain or the United States. Once qualified, they’ll move on to aircraft-specific training for either an Airbus or Boeing, followed by a pilot role at Jet2.com.

In true City style, this isn’t just about ticking boxes. Trainees will also gain insight into how the airline works – shadowing cabin crew, ground teams, and customer service staff to understand the wider operation of a successful business. Jet2’s culture, much like that of the Square Mile, rewards discipline, precision, and a cool head under pressure.

The airline plans to expand the scheme in future years, but this first round of 60 places could be ideal for those working in finance, tech, admin or support roles who want to change course – quite literally.

If you’re based in or around the Square Mile and looking to pivot into a career with lift-off, now’s your chance.

Applications are open now. Visit the Jet2FlightPath application page for full details.
