Frankenstein movie coming to Netflix in November 2025
Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein has been adapted many times and director Guillermo del Toro is the latest to take a stab at it. Netflix has announced that it will be released on the streaming service in November though a specific date has not been given.
Oscar Isaac has been revealed as the eponymous doctor whose experiments bring the monster to life, eventually leading to his and the monster’s end. Del Toro wrote and directed the movie which will star Jacob Elordi as the infamous monster.
The role had originally been intended for Andrew Garfield who had to decline due to scheduling conflicts. In December 2024, Garfield commented that he was “disappointed” not to have the role but added that he was “very glad” to see Elordi taking the mantle.
“Meeting Jacob felt really serendipitous so that I could really see and hear that, ‘No, maybe he needed that experience more than me’. That was cool, to feel that he had a really spectacular time on that job,” he said when speaking to Deadline.
Frankenstein will also star Mia Goth, possibly as the Isaac’s love interest Elizabeth Lavenza, along with a star-studded cast that will include Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, Charles Dance, Christoph Waltz and David Bradley.
It is not the only adaptation of Frankenstein coming in 2025. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new movie Bride! is set to hit cinemas on 26 September. It will be an adaptation of Bride of Frankenstein, starring Christian Bale as the monster and Jessie Buckley as the bride.
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein remains a seminal work in the realm of gothic literature, exploring profound themes of creation, responsibility, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. Since its publication in 1818, the novel has captivated audiences, with each new adaptation bringing fresh perspectives to its enduring questions about humanity and the ethical limits of science. These upcoming adaptations underscore the timeless relevance of Shelley’s original story, demonstrating how its exploration of isolation, identity, and moral dilemmas continues to resonate with modern audiences.
