Camden Film Quarter Plans Could Transform Kentish Town

Camden’s always had music at its heart. From Britpop and indie sleaze to the Roundhouse and the Dublin Castle, it’s played a huge part in shaping British music culture. However, now, the area might be getting ready for a new role – this time in film – thanks to fresh plans to create a Camden Film Quarter just west of Kentish Town station.
The site, mostly made up of garages and old industrial units around Regis Road, could be transformed into a new space for film and TV production. The idea is to build proper studios, flexible workspaces, and make the area easier to get around on foot and by bike.
It’s not just about adding more office space. The hope is to build something that speaks directly to the needs of the UK’s growing screen industry, especially at a time when affordable and well-connected places to film in London are harder to find. If it goes ahead, Kentish Town could become a serious contender for companies looking to stay in the capital without breaking the bank.
There’s definitely demand. More productions are being made in the UK than ever before, and that includes everything from indie films to big-name streaming shows. However, they all need places to shoot, edit, and work. With its central location and creative reputation, Camden could tick a lot of boxes.
That said, not everyone’s sure about the plan. Like a lot of regeneration projects, it brings questions: Who benefits? Will long-time locals be included or pushed out? Will the jobs go to people who already live in the area? Change always comes with a mix of excitement and concern.
Supporters of the Camden Film Quarter say it’s not about wiping out what came before but how they can add to it. Camden has always been creative. Music, fashion, art and film have lived side by side here for years. A new film district could build on that, not replace it.
One thing’s clear: London is changing. Boroughs are looking for ways to stay relevant, to bring in jobs, and to support creative industries. Whether the film quarter goes ahead or not, it shows Camden is thinking seriously about what comes next and how to stay true to itself in the process.
