100 Couples to Marry for £100 at Old Marylebone Town Hall’s Centenary Celebration

In a special celebration of its 100th anniversary, Old Marylebone Town Hall will host a day of love and unity like no other. On 1st October, 2024, 100 couples will tie the knot, enter into civil partnerships, or renew their vows at the iconic venue, known for hosting the weddings of legendary figures such as Ringo Starr, Sir Paul McCartney, and Liam Gallagher. In honour of the centenary, the Town Hall is offering this unique opportunity for just £100—a fraction of the usual cost.
The event, which runs from 8:00 AM to 10:30 PM, allows each couple to bring up to eight guests and even two pets, making it a truly inclusive celebration. Many of the participants have strong connections to Westminster, having lived, worked, or studied in the area. For some, the Town Hall holds sentimental value, with past generations having celebrated their own milestones here.
“It’s a dream come true,” shared one bride-to-be. “I used to work around Marylebone and watched couples on their happiest day. I always hoped to get married here, and now it’s happening!”
Another couple, excited to save on the costs of a traditional wedding, has chosen to spend their savings on a bucket-list honeymoon to Mauritius. “It sounds so fun and way more ‘us’ than a big wedding,” they explained. “We’ve hired an afternoon tea bus for the reception, and we’ll be celebrating alongside 99 other couples on the same day!”
For others, the historic significance of Westminster’s Old Marylebone Town Hall adds a unique layer of meaning. One couple, both aged 64, were inspired by the venue’s ties to the Beatles and the swinging sixties. “When I saw the article about the centenary, I knew this was the perfect place for us to get married,” said the groom. “We won’t have ‘When I’m 64’ as our wedding music, but it very nearly was!”
Councillor Ryan Jude, Cabinet Member for Climate, Ecology and Culture, expressed his excitement about the centenary celebrations: “We are thrilled to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Old Marylebone Town Hall, a venue that holds historical and cultural significance for Westminster. This milestone is not just a reflection of the building’s rich past but also a celebration of the diverse couples who will be creating new memories here.”
