WGCL applications open by TfL

TfL has opened applications for its Walking and Cycling Grants London (WGCL) programme with over £550,000 of grant funding available for community and non-profit groups to encourage Londoners to walk or cycle. Each successful application will receive up to £5,000 over a year.
The WGCL programme hopes to allow more people in the capital to walk or cycle by identifying and tackling the barriers preventing them from “getting active and making sustainable and healthy choices.” With these grants, participants would be given the chance to “engage their local communities in getting active and improving their physical and mental health,” TfL says.
Funding comes from TfL in partnership with the London Marathon Foundation and administered by Groundwork London. The grant aims to “help Londoners develop the confidence to opt for active travel, including cycling and walking.”
Applications would be considered based on how an idea could positively impact the local community to encourage more cycling and walking.
The WGCL scheme has so far helped over 89,000 unique participants across 32 boroughs and the City of London through activities tailored to their needs. These include rides for children with disabilities, led rides for members of the LGBTQ+ community, classes to learn cycling and bike repair, and walks for those suffering from ill health or isolation. 57 new projects were given funding through the programme last year.
Applications for both grants can be accessed at wcgl.london and the application window for both programmes is open until 8th September.
