War in Ukraine third anniversary marked by RBKC

As Ukraine marks the third anniversary of the war, Kensington and Chelsea council says it continues to stand in solidarity with its people. The borough reaffirmed its commitment to providing ongoing support for those affected by the conflict through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, which has enabled residents to offer accommodation to those displaced by the conflict.

Since the war began following Russia’s invasion in February 2022, more than 900 Ukrainians have been matched with local sponsors from the borough, finding refuge in spare rooms or second properties provided by generous residents.

Kensington and Chelsea Council Leader, Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, expressed her continued support for Ukraine. “Three years on from the start of the conflict, our thoughts remain with the people of Ukraine, including those who have made Kensington and Chelsea their home.”

“I am grateful to our residents who have so generously opened their homes to those fleeing the war, as well as to our borough’s Ukrainian community and voluntary groups who continue to provide support,” Cllr Campbell added. “Sadly, with the war continuing and more people being forced to leave Ukraine, the need for safe places to stay remains. I encourage anyone who can to consider supporting the Homes for Ukraine scheme.”

To celebrate the efforts of the scheme’s hosts and guests on the anniversary, a special event, Together in RBKC, will be held at the Great Hall of Kensington Town Hall on Monday 3 March. Those interested in attending are invited to register online.

More information on the Homes for Ukraine scheme can be found on the council’s website.
