Vanquish nameplate revived for new Aston Martin

Aston Martin has revived the Vanquish nameplate for its latest sports car. The new model goes against Ferrari’s 12Cilindri in being a front-engined V12-powered GT car with a potent powertrain.

The new Vanquish, like the cars before it, comes with a V12 engine with what Aston Martin calls  “monumental potency.” It sits in a bespoke chassis that boasts “state-of-the-art dynamics technology, carbon fibre bodywork of unmatched presence and an interior which sets new standards of modern luxury.”

Fewer than 1,000 of the new Vanquish will be made every year, helping it to maintain exclusivity.

But back to the engine. The new motor is a 5.2-litre Twin-Turbo V12 that makes a more than adequate 835PS and 1000Nm of torque. That’s enough to send it to a top speed of 214mph, making it the fastest production Aston Martin ever made.

“Only by refining every stage of the internal combustion process,” Aston Martin says, “has this unprecedented performance and efficiency been achieved, while ensuring this magnificent V12 meets the latest emissions legislation across global markets.”

A special engine needs a special chassis to keep it under control and Aston says that the chassis of the new Vanquish has been “meticulously honed to deliver unprecedented dynamic bandwidth.”

However, Aston Martin is about more than just engines and chassis. Many of the company’s past models have been considered among the most beautiful cars ever made and this one will surely turn heads. The body has been designed to amplify its front-engined proportions to “expresses a fabulous sense of speed and power” with the design team taking inspiration from iconic Aston Martins of the past as well as its latest F1 cars.

Fron the sculpted bonnet to the F1 inspired louvres that help that V12 breath, as well as the distinctive ‘Kamm’ tail helping to reduce drag, the Vanquish is definitely a design icon.
