St Pancras Unveils ‘Wicked’ Christmas Tree for 2024
St Pancras International has unveiled its highly anticipated Christmas tree for 2024, this time in partnership with Universal Pictures UK. Designed to celebrate the upcoming film Wicked, based on the globally successful stage musical, this year’s installation is themed as an “ode to the Emerald City,” bringing a touch of Oz-inspired magic to one of London’s iconic destinations.
Towering at an impressive 11 metres, the St Pancras Christmas tree features over 100 illuminated towers and intricately decorated green and gold baubles, paying homage to the fantastical land of Oz. The centrepiece, meticulously crafted by 20 artisans over 4,000 hours, includes miniature windows showcasing characters and objects from the Wicked universe, along with a detailed diorama of Oz at its heart. Visitors will also find photo booths and an immersive seating area where music from the Wicked soundtrack fills the air, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
A Unique Festive Experience in London
This extraordinary Christmas display is more than just a visual treat. Throughout the season, St Pancras will host a range of free events, including visits from Father Christmas and festive sing-alongs at the station’s famous pianos. Additionally, fans of the Wicked film can indulge in a themed shopping experience at a Lush pop-up store, offering bath bombs, soaps, and toiletries inspired by the film’s beloved characters.
The Wicked film, which releases in cinemas on November 22, stars British actress Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a character who is often misunderstood for her green skin but soon discovers her inner strength. Joining her is pop sensation Ariana Grande as Glinda, a young woman who must come to terms with her true heart. The cast also features award-winning stars like Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey from Bridgerton, and Jeff Goldblum as the iconic Wizard of Oz.
A Holiday Tradition at St Pancras International
Wendy Spinks, Chief Commercial Officer at St Pancras International and HS1 Ltd, expressed excitement over this year’s tree, noting, “The St Pancras International Christmas tree has become a fixture in London’s festive calendar, and we understand the importance of bringing something spectacular and unique to the station for visitors to enjoy. Partnering with Universal Pictures for their only Wicked Christmas tree in the UK was an easy choice, and we look forward to welcoming guests from across the country, as well as our international travellers, to experience it.”
In recent years, St Pancras has partnered with renowned brands like Tiffany & Co. and Hatchards bookshop to create themed Christmas trees, making each year’s installation a unique spectacle.
Erika Lewington, Marketing Director at Universal Pictures International, UK & Eire Ltd, added, “We are delighted to partner with St Pancras International to bring the world of Wicked to life through this enchanting Christmas tree.
